A near perfect article in the Medical Republic

This article, entitled How is paedophilia a health issue?, is nearly perfect. My only points of contention are the creepy doll-heads picture used as the header and the percentage that suggests that 40-50% of sexual abusers might be pedophiles (as opposed to situational offenders). All the studies I’ve seen have suggested that the percentage of situational offenders is somewhere between 60-80%, which would mean that the real percentage of pedophilic abusers is between 20-40%. That’s a significant difference. Other than that, it’s a great article that mentions VirPed, Prevention Project Dunkelfeld, Circles of Support and Accountability (Cantor’s organization based in Canada), and my friends Ethan Edwards (one of VirPed’s founders) and Max Weber. Check it out!

  1. I’m going to check this out, Todd. Just a quick comment–as an abuse survivor I absolutely can’t stand that crap they use in imagery for these articles like doll’s heads and empty swings. They would try to use it in conjunction with discussing my book, too. Ugh! It creeps out everyone!
